Halloween II

October 21, 2009

I saw “Halloween II” last night for the first time. I had never really been a fan of slasher flicks, but last year I saw “Halloween” and like it a lot. The sequel was stunningly awful. Nearly every scene contained some implausible plot element that disturbed my suspension of disbelief.  The special effects were laughable. If one is going to use thick red paint for blood, is it too much to ask that the color be blood red and not neon red?

They even managed to mess up the sound track. “Halloween” had a fantastic theme, truly chilling. For “Halloween II” they used similar sheet music but played the theme with a synthesizer instead of a piano. The effect is — to use the argot of the era — “totally” cheesy.

I’ll have to try Rob Zombie‘s version next.
